Adapt & Thrive Mastermind, November 5th

Have you ever considered creating a podcast to help bring more exposure to your brandWe bet you’ve got some favorite podcasts! Of all the topics out there–true crime, comedy, news, fiction, culture, etc.–have you ever tossed around the idea that you might have something to contribute to the platform? If you’ve never thought about starting your own podcast, you might find it’s a risk worth taking. This week at our local business mastermind, Brian Fife gave us some advice on why you should consider starting a podcast, as well as how to make it fun and beneficial for your business.

This week’s Top Takeaways:

  • If you’re considering a podcast, consider: Do you have a story to tell? What is your expertise? Does your content translate well without visual aid?
  • Try out different podcast styles and choose the one or two that feel like a comfortable fit: conversational, topic-based, story-telling, or train of thought.
  • Identify your nervous ticks, habits, and overused words or phrases, then do your best to limit using them. Even if you’re planning to have the podcast edited, constantly filling the silence with “um” and “yeah” will quickly get annoying.
  • You might choose to plan out your script as an outline to help you remember important talking points. It’s usually unwise to read something word-for-word (unless you’re a trained actor or narrator), so that your voice doesn’t sound wooden and over-rehearsed.
  • Looking for somewhere to publish your content? Anchor.fm is an awesome, free tool that helps get your podcast onto the major platforms and into the headphones of your listeners.

If you’ve been thinking about starting a podcast, we say give it a shot! Even if it doesn’t work out in the way you hoped, testing the waters for a short time will still be a step in the right direction. The key to success is having fearless humility. If you don’t have enough humility, you’ll think you can outsmart reality, and your plans will fail. On the other hand, if you have too much fear, you won’t ever take the leaps of faith that owning a business sometimes requires. Go out there and try new things, friends! We can’t wait to hear all about it at the next Adapt & Thrive Mastermind.
